Questions About Asphalt Driveways
If you need to have your home's driveway paved, then you might have some questions. If you do, then they are likely the same questions that other people have asked. You will find some of the answers to questions some homeowners have had detailed here:
How long do you have to stay off the surface once the driveway has been freshly paved?
In many cases, you will be instructed to stay off of the driveway for at least a day if not longer. If you can put off parking in the fresh driveway for a day or so, then this is the best way to go to ensure the driveway is fully hardened to the point that no visible damage will be caused. There may be certain conditions that will cause it to take longer than just a few days, so always follow the instructions given to you by the professionals.
Is there anything you should know about driving on your new driveway?
One thing you want to keep in mind is that you don't want to have excessively heavy vehicles pulling into your driveway if it is avoidable. A couple of examples of these types of vehicles would include a delivery truck or a tractor. You might want to set out cones at the end of your driveway to make sure this doesn't accidentally happen, or you can use some caution tape. Another thing to be careful of is to make sure your car is in motion anytime you are turning the wheels when the driveway is still brand new. Otherwise, you can cause damage to the new asphalt.
How long will asphalt usually last in a driveway?
Asphalt can last you for several years if you take proper care of it. This means making sure you clean grease and oil off it, have it sealed routinely, and make sure you have any small repairs tended to right away. Keep in mind the amount of harsh use it gets can reflect in the amount of time you get out of it. For example, if you have heavy machinery constantly traveling on or over the driveway, then this will add more stress to it that can reflect in the amount of time you get out of it. Therefore, you should try your best to restrict these types of machinery from having access to the driveway unless it is absolutely necessary.
